How Social Media Shapes Our Business: The Good, The Bad & Finding Balance
Social media is a powerful tool. It’s how we connect with our audience, share our brand’s story, and build a community around Elation. But like anything, it comes with its highs and lows. Today, we want to take you behind the scenes of how social media shapes our business, the good, the bad, and how we find balance in it all.
The Good: Connection, Growth & Brand Building
Social media has been a game-changer for Elation. It’s not just about selling bikinis; it’s about creating a lifestyle and a feeling, something people want to be a part of.
✅ Building a Community – Platforms like Instagram and TikTok allow us to connect directly with you. We love seeing how you style Elation pieces, hearing your feedback, and growing a space where ocean lovers and ethical fashion supporters come together.
✅ A Free (& Powerful) Marketing Tool – Let’s be real! social media is an insane marketing tool. It lets us showcase our designs, share our sustainability efforts, and give behind-the-scenes glimpses into our world. Without social media, reaching this audience would be a much bigger challenge.
✅ Real-Time Feedback & Inspiration – We get instant responses on new designs, what you love (or don’t), and ideas for what’s next. Seeing what resonates with people helps shape future collections in a way that a focus group or survey never could.
The Bad: The Pressure, The Algorithms & The Mental Toll
Of course, it’s not always sunshine and smooth sailing. Social media can also be draining, especially when it’s tied to our business.
❌ The Constant Need to Be ‘On’ – The pressure to post consistently, stay relevant, and keep up with trends can feel overwhelming. Sometimes, we just want to unplug and be present, but social media doesn’t stop.
❌ The Algorithm Game – The way social media works is ever-changing. One day a post can reach thousands, and the next, it barely scratches the surface. It can be frustrating when time and effort go into content that doesn’t perform well.
❌ Comparison Culture – It’s easy to fall into the trap of comparing our brand to others. Seeing brands that seem to be growing faster or influencers getting more engagement can be disheartening if we let it get to us.
Finding Balance: How We Navigate It All
At the end of the day, social media is a tool, it works for us, not the other way around. Here’s how we maintain a healthy relationship with it:
Quality Over Quantity – We no longer feel the need to post for the sake of it. If we don’t have something valuable to share, we wait until we do.
Taking Breaks – Stepping away from the screen is necessary. Whether it’s a weekend offline or scheduling content in advance, we make sure we have time away from the digital world.
Remembering Our ‘Why’ – Social media is part of our business, but it’s not our entire business. At the core of it all, we started Elation to create connection, sustainable swimwear, and community, not to chase likes and follows.
Lastly
Social media has shaped our business in so many ways! some incredible, some challenging. But at the end of the day, it’s an amazing tool when used intentionally. The key? Finding balance, setting boundaries, and focusing on what truly matters: creating something meaningful and sharing it with a community that believes in it.
