THE SURFAID MAKE A WAVE CHALLENGE

THE SURFAID MAKE A WAVE CHALLENGE

I'm fortunate to be half Australian and half Balinese. As I’ve grown, I’ve become increasingly aware of the privilege this brings and I am always reflecting on how I can give back. While I’m still exploring the best way to make an impact, I’ve found that other gestures can truly fill my cup.

One of my favourite ways to contribute is through the SURFAID 'MAKE A WAVE' challenge, which supports communities in Indonesia. Many families face significant challenges, with limited access to clean drinking water and adequate nutrition. This leads to a range of health issues, particularly for mothers and newborns.

Despite these hardships, the joy and resilience of the people in Indonesia are truly inspiring. When invited into their homes, even when they have little to offer, you’re greeted with warmth, smiles, and delicious local treats. However, behind those smiles often there is untold struggle, with the thought 'that is life'.

SURFAID works tirelessly to raise funds for families in remote surf communities, where maternal and child mortality rates are alarmingly high. The organisation provides education and resources to foster long-term change. They’ve initiated health programs for mothers and children, trained community health volunteers and midwives, established clean water sources, and created thriving nutrition gardens. It’s incredible to witness the positive impact of these efforts.

Every September, surfers from around the globe commit to surf for 30 days to fundraise for @SURFAID, to help increase the impact and reach that the organisation can provide, to support those living in the rural towns of our favourite surf breaks.
