My Morning Rituals – How I Start My Day
Mornings set the vibe for my whole day. Over time, I’ve realised that how I start my morning affects my energy, creativity, and overall mindset. Living in Bali has taught me to slow down and be more intentional with my mornings—rather than waking up and diving straight into emails or stress, I take my time to ease into the day.
First Light & Fresh Air
There’s something special about those quiet early hours before the island fully wakes up. The sound of the Ibu sweeping leaves, birds chirping, and the sky turning from deep blues to soft pinks—it’s the calm before the chaos. Before I even touch my phone, I stretch, take a few deep breaths, and just soak it all in before heading to the gym.
6 AM Gym Routine – My Non-Negotiable
Every morning at 6 AM, I’m at the gym. This isn’t some hardcore discipline thing, it’s just part of my routine. Back when I was a personal trainer, I built the habit, and now it’s something I can’t go without. Some days, it’s weight training, other days a surf, a walk, or just a good stretch—whatever gets my body moving and my mind switched on.
Of course, running a business means not every morning goes as planned. Sometimes, I’m up at all sorts of hours dealing with emails and last-minute decisions that could cost thousands. But no matter what, I always try to fit in some kind of movement, and stick to routine—it keeps me feeling good and ready to tackle whatever the day throws at me.
Coffee & Getting in the Zone
After training, it’s coffee time. Either I make a strong black coffee at home or scooter over to Elsewhere Surf Camps for one (the staff there are legends). This is when I slow down, journal, and jot down what’s on my mind—what I’m grateful for, what needs my focus, and how I want to attack the day.
Setting Intentions for the Day
Instead of jumping straight into work, I spend 5–10 minutes setting my focus for the day. I write down three key things I want to get done—whether it’s creating content, designing, or brainstorming for Elation. Gratitude is a big part of this for me too—it keeps me grounded and reminds me why I do what I do.
Why a Structured Morning Works for Me
I used to think being productive meant waking up and working straight away. But I’ve realised that having a solid morning routine—one that includes movement, mindfulness, and a bit of creativity, which actually helps me get more done. By the time I sit down at my laptop around 8 AM, I feel clear, energised, and ready to go.
Right now, in this phase of my life, I’m grateful to have the time and space to prioritise my mornings like this. Who knows? One day, my routine might look completely different, but for now, I’m making the most of it.
